professional organizations
Who is a member of any professional organization? Has anyone had luck in getting their company to pay the registration dues?
I'm in the IGDA*. My renewal is coming up soon too. Damn. Students only have to pay $35, but I think now I have to pay about $150. I think the companies tend not to pay for memberships, because nobody's required to join or gets any tangible work benefit from it. Just the magazine, the meetings, and certain perks at conferences.

I was thinking about the actuary designation, but than I got lazy and moved to a different department. That's a good question though. I should ask my boss if they would pay for ACM and IEEE computer membership.Dwindlehop wrote:Who is a member of any professional organization? Paid for by the grad school?skanks wrote:American Mathematical Society. Paid for the Grad School in fact.
I'm not a member of the Association of Computing Machinery. It's definitely a purely academic organization. I have been to an ACM conference though, but for students there was no discount for members.
