Damn you domain registrations!!!

Post by bob »

Like Jonathan's recent problems, I'm today experiencing domain registration woes. Starting about two months ago, I began receiving the notices saying that my website would expire, so last week I called my host to make sure that they had my credit card on file and would renew it properly.

Today everything broke. I realized this when I tried to send an email to somebody at Apple. You know, one of those "thanks for the interview, when will I hear back?" emails. And it bounced. Because Apple's servers didn't think my domain existed. So I tried things like nslookup and dig, and they worked fine. And then I tried them from the Andrew unix machines, and they say I don't exist. Apparently, it's currently that brief window of time where some DNS servers have updated, but Comcast hasn't.

Apparently, my hosting renewal went through, but not the DNS renewal. So my website still works for anybody with an old DNS record. DAMN YOU!!! Supposedly back up within 24 hours.
