Take the Political Compass test to find out where you stand on Leftist(Collectivism)/Rightest(Libertarianism) and Authoritarian(Fasicm)/Libertarian(Anarchism)

http://www.politicalcompass.org/

My stats:
Economic Left/Right: -3.88
Libertarian/Authoritarian: -3.13

So apparently I'm a collectivist libertarian (communist anarchist).

I'm in the same category as Gandhi, the Dalai Lama, and Nelson Mandela.

I've done a quick ten question version of this test, and I was a lot more leftist. Huh. Still, I'm pretty willing to buy this as an accurate representation of my political beliefs. Basically, we need government to curb the worst excesses of the market and of, well, people. Government should soften the blow, but never dictate. You need moderate regulation, but too much regulation and you become a dinosaur like centrally planned economies of yore. Too little regulation and you get famine and toxic waste dumping and other shitty things. Government should stay the fuck out of people's private business, though, no matter what.

This is not a usage I am familiar with. From where does it originate?

If I had to guess, I would have said it was intended to convey ambivalence, something midway between a bang and a dot. I'm glad I asked, since it clearly isn't.

Heh, I guess I picked it up from IRC and happy anime bboards. Also used to denote singing. Example:

~ It's the end of the world as we know it ~
~ And I feel fine ~

which is about right I guess. not much for free hand outs (subsidy, and welfare), but hates goverment trying to force their own point of view.
