Definitive proof that it is "y'all" and nothing else that separates us from the Yankees.
The collection of maps is fun to browse, although I think the results would make more sense if they weighted them according to how "y'all"ish or "yinz"ish a given territory is. That would at least make for prettier maps.

Not to beat a dead horse, but it would be nice to see the division of soda, pop, coke, and colaDwindlehop wrote:http://www.hcs.harvard.edu/~golder/dial ... /q_50.html

Cocaine and nicotine vaccines.
Wow. I didn't know that, although it makes sense. Then again, this is wired news...Smoking is the leading cause of death among Americans, and incurs $155 billion in medical costs and productivity losses each year, according to the CDC.

It says right there in your quote "according to the CDC." (and what does "Then again, this is wired news..." supposed to mean, anyway?)
Some facts from http://www.cdc.gov/tobacco/:
Some facts from http://www.cdc.gov/tobacco/:
Tobacco use is the leading preventable cause of death in the United States. Cigarette smoking causes an estimated 440,000 deaths, or about 1 of every 5 deaths, each year. This estimate includes 35,000 deaths from secondhand smoke exposure.
More deaths are caused each year by tobacco use than by all deaths from human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), illegal drug use, alcohol use, motor vehicle injuries, suicides, and murders combined.
Lung cancer (124,000), heart disease (111,000), and the chronic lung diseases of emphysema, bronchitis, and chronic airways obstruction (82,000) are responsible for the largest number of smoking-related deaths.
