Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind

Post by Alan »

Just watched this. In the *ahem* theatre. Yeah.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0338013/

Great movie. The last 3 movies I've seen have all been great (this one, Lost in Translation, and Spirited Away). Jim Carrey plays a serious character, doesn't do any of his patented overacting, and actually pulls it off. Then again he did pretty well with The Truman Show and Man in The Moon too.

Watch this one if you get the chance. And Lost in Translation and Spirited Away too if you haven't already.

EDIT: If you plan on seeing the movie don't read the user review on the imdb page. It gives basically the whole plot of the movie away.

I concur. We went to see this the other weekend. It's a very good movie, with proper amounts of comedy and pathos and drama.

Some of the thingies I saw led me to believe it would be difficult, but that's nonsense. It's very straightforward, as long as you have an acceptance of the science fiction conceit.

Oh yeah, it's definitely nonsense. There's no way you could lesion the brain like that to selectively remove specific memories. At least not in the current understanding of memories. Also it's likely taking out neurons all over the place would probably have other effects too.

But yeah it's science fiction. Lots of nonsense stuff happens in science fiction.

I meant reviewers implied the movie was difficult to understand, not the neuroscience was difficult. The movie is not difficult to understand. As for the science, there's a certain amount of hand waving in any SF.

Ah I read your post wrong. I saw "difficult" and "believe" and hit "Reply". Heh.
