my company was hiring

Post by Jonathan »

June 3 2004: My group is no longer hiring. If you send me your resume, more than likely you will not be interviewed. Sorry.

DO NOT CONTACT ME IF YOU ONLY HAVE A MASTER'S DEGREE AND DO NOT HAVE THE PERMANENT RIGHT TO WORK IN THE US. MY GROUP IS NOT INTERVIEWING CANDIDATES WITH MASTER'S DEGREES WHO DO NOT HAVE THE PERMANENT RIGHT TO WORK IN THE US AT THIS TIME.

I've been directed by my boss's boss to send resumes their way. We're hiring design engineers and a few mask designers. That includes circuit design engineers, design automation engineers, logic design engineers, architects, validators, and DFT guys. There are openings for people with a CS background, too. You must have a master's degree or a PhD. All openings I personally can connect you to are in Portland, working on the design team. Currently we are working on the first processor from my company to use 65 nm process technology.

You also need to be a US citizen or have the permanent right to work in the US if you only have a master's. PhDs can be foreigners.

If you are interested, you should have emailed me months ago when I first posted this.

We're also looking for summer interns. You should be working on a graduate degree if you want to do this.

Hmm, think I can send my resume for curiousity's sake?

I'd hate to waste their time, but how long does looking at one resume actually take? This goes back to the guilt-trip I had about turning down interviews :?

Which I did do (including a site visit to SF, which people called me crazy for) since I already accepted an offer and didn't want to screw others.

Yes, I think you can. You haven't wasted anyone's time until you are flown to Portland, IMHO.

From co-workers' experiences, I'd say that one spends literally 60 seconds scanning a resume and probably 5 minutes or less preparing for a phone interview.

Yes, this has proven to be true. They can't even take two seconds to figure out the number put next to each degree is the GPA. Instead, they take longer to write an email to ask for it and read the reply that says it's already there.

If you found this thread via Google, please be aware of the following:

1. I am a performance validation engineer. I work in the Architecture Group, which is part of the design group that designs the lead process vehicles for my company's new processes.
2. You must have the permanent right to work in the United States to be considered, at least for positions in this design group.
3. You must have a graduate degree in the field you are interested in.

It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but it doesn't take any to just sit there with a dumb look on your face.
