Loot

Post by Alan »

Looks like you can either do autosplit like DAOC or a lotto system. So basically it's not a crappy ninja loot system like SB:

In honor of our dnd sessions we should use the lottery system to simulate in-fighting/backstabbing within party to get the best item.

And then we can bitch about how jason cheated us all and george got crap

It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but it doesn't take any to just sit there with a dumb look on your face.

I might be wrong, but there are only 2 options for loot. Lottery, or leader controled distribution. which i guess works, but i think a random rotation would work better-ish

Whenever a party picks up an item, everybody has to "cast lot" on the item, like they're rolling dice. The highest number gets the item. It's all random.
So I guess it's basically random but you have to actually say you want the item. DAOC had autosplit which was okay, but if you were in a good group what happened was people who could actually use an item would roll for it and the person who actually got the loot would pony it up to the winner. And if he didn't he'd get kicked and blacklisted.

Autosplit is better than ninja-looting, but lottery is even better than autosplit. As long as you don't get asshats who roll for everything even if they can't use it. But then you can just kick them.

So as I suspected, best buy doesn't sell FFXI (not even listed on their website) and I don't even know if they'll have it any time soon. That means the friend of mine who was trying to buy the game today couldn't get it. Thus no world pass from him any time soon.

Good news is, my game was shipped this afternoon and if all goes right, it should be here by tomorrow afternoon. Maybe after all it's up to me to get a world pass, but no guarantees. Work days are bad.

Keep fingers cross...FeDex you better not screw up like last time. They couldn't find my address last time, 2 days in a row...some dimwit needed to be shot.

Yeah Best Buy always gets games late. I think I read they won't get it until the 9th.

so they don't sell FFXI on the day it's supposed to be released but they do allow preorders of FFX-2 which will be out later than FFXI...to me that's just odd

STRANGER DANGER

Some guy who knows Vinny from the nefarious realm of the IRC..

Probably a mithra red mage, going for an eventual summoner/something (probably just RM), if you guys are okay with unkempt outsiders..

Judging by the number of people we'll probably end up needing more than one world pass

It'll be easier once the 5 people get on from the first WP.

And IGN's FF XI site went up. They were the best site and forums for DAOC, probably will end up the same for FFXI if ffxionline.com keeps sucking horribly.

I realise I'll probably be sorely lacking in the MP-ness, but.. blee. It's worth it to not be the size of a raccoon. ;p
