AnandTech: The RV770 Story: Documenting ATI's Road to Success
http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3469

Damn good article imho. I guess it has more of an impact on me now that I've been working a few years.

For those that don't know, the RV770 is AMD/ATI's core for the Radeon HD 4800 series, which is pretty much dominating the current $200-$300 graphics card market.

I still don't like their idle power consumption values though :/

I like this article's discussion about yield vs architecture trade off driving the need to shift their strategy. It's really amazing how often fundamental trends are overlooked when evaluating strategy.
