Exercise Bikes

Post by VLSmooth »

On a more serious note, I've been looking into getting an exercise bike for my apartment. After a bit of googling, I found this site:
http://www.trainersecrets.com/index.htm

and looked more specifically here:
http://www.trainersecrets.com/exercise-bikes.htm

even more specifically here:
http://www.trainersecrets.com/best_exercise_bike.htm

and also here: (upright)
http://www.trainersecrets.com/exercise_ ... _rt445.htm

and here: (recumbent)
http://www.trainersecrets.com/exercise_ ... _cyc12.htm

The recumbent looks more comfortable, but the upright is only $499 at modell's w/free shipping and is pulse driven. Guess I'll check them out later this week/weekend.

Any comments/opinions would be great.

Do 45 minutes on whatever piece of equipment you intend to buy before you fork over cash for it.

Hmm... they'll let you do that in the store I hope?

Admittedly, I am a bit worried about either the height of the upright or the console of the recumbent hindering the ability to see my tv ^_^;

ps. So people don't think I'm too crazy, this will be paritally funded by my FY03 $200 annual fitness reimbursement which ends on 9/30, so I'm a little pressed for time. I'm also looking into splitting the bill before and after that date to get $400. This is often the case for flexible gym memberships.

If the splitting doesn't work out, I'm also looking at the Proform 970 Crosstrainer, which Jason has.

Dunno. Find a gym with the prerequisite hardware and get trial pass.

Or at least break a sweat in the store. Momentarily summon balls of steel and just do it.

More to the point, have you used a recumbent exercise bike before? Amber hates them. I can't stand elliptical machines because the motion of those machines completely disagrees with my natural stride. People generally manifest fairly strong personal preferences for exercise equipment, even for generic things like exercise bikes. Make sure you harbor no dislike of something you're going to spend $300 or $100 of your money on.

Hates recumbent bikes? o.o

I thought the entire reason for them was comfort. Guess I'll found out for myself soon enough.

Regarding elliptical machines, I prefer having a seat in case I want to rest/be lazy 8)

Update: Just got off the phone with workoutwarehouse.com and was looking at the Reebok RT 445 Upright Bike (review).

Fit off, they also provide free shipping, and allow "10 easy payments of $49" instead of a flat fee of $499. Why anyone wants to pay the extra $9 when you're allowed to prepay the 10 payment plan is beyond me. However, thanks to the phone call, I know I can get invoices with the proper dates.

Current Mood: VLSmooth is happy 8)

Now, to see if stores like Modell's or Sears will allow me to try out their wares for ~45 minutes...

btw, check the 2nd post on this parallel thread:

I'm amused someone actually used their logs to track a referral site like this. Guess this is exactly what Peijen was talking about with that "not-to-be-named BT site".
