file server is define as a separate computer that you don't use if for day to day stuff(browsing, documents, games, etc), and you use it as central storage for your files as one of it's function.

I backup Amber's laptop onto the machine that I use as my main client.
I have a second machine, but I haven't turned it on in ~2 years.
Now that I'm building a new machine, I may continue the backup process on the older one and just reserve the newer one for client tasks. I still answered no.

My old "gaming" computer has just become my new file server sorta. I still use it to browse some web pages, ventrilo, or watch stupid mkv files that run crappy on my web-browsing/email/chat pc.
It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but it doesn't take any to just sit there with a dumb look on your face.

Yes, I use a
ReadyNAS NV .
It's downstairs (
to mitigate noise ), on 24/7, and mounted as a network drive on Solo (main PC) and accessible via FTP .

Eventually, I plan to use my media center box as a file server, but right now, it's not set up that way, so I said no.

anyone upgrade to 802.11n yet? I'm in the process of it and the coverage is sooo much better.

I have no idea what my wireless protocol is, but I don't really use it.

I'm in the same boat, so I said no as well. Although I will be moving most of my music and static stuff to it soon.
