I think I want to join the 21st century. Anything I should know about DVD drives before I get one?

They're ~$20, don't spend too much time thinking about which to get.
I recommend Lite-On (manufacturer )
Burners are pretty much the same price as read-only drives. Get a burner.

Buy one of each!
I have a Samsung that's a little quieter than my Lite-on, but basically I bought based on it being the cheapest reputable SATA drive available at the time.
