Adblock Plus and EasyList make the old Adblock and filterset.g obsolete.quantus wrote:Ummm, why aren't you using adblock and filterset.g in firefox or something similar for whatever browser you're using?Dwindlehop wrote:(some of the ads on newgrounds aren't really SFW in my opinion)
Just a heads up.

Just to clarify, besides picking Easylist once during "add-on" installation, there's zero configuration. It just works (well).
Also, since I missed it earlier, here's the Mozilla link:

When you said twitch and turret defense...I thought of this game...however I think this really isn't turret defense and more carpal tunnel twitch defense. It is amusing thought to toss enemy troops in the air and watch them go splat =).Dwindlehop wrote:I think Picnic Panic is the best of the turret defenses. The element of twitch is present because of 100% recycling, so you can destroy your first base and build a new one right at the end. The monsters are varied and interesting. By far the worst problem it has is that the levels don't present a great escalating path, and the game is too short.

(woot got to lvl 14....)
My reviews will become brief and sparse nowadays =(. Not enough free time at work to write them ^_^. I had promised to review a recent game and originally wanted to write about this earlier this month but got caught up with other things. Looking back at this...wow...long post.....
As some of you may know, the Independent Game Festival (IGF) held it's annual award show two weeks ago at San Francisco during the Game Developer Conference (GDC). IGF was established about a decade ago to encourage and recognize excellence in various fields in the independent game developer community. This year, there were three contenders for the Best Web Browser Game.
Samorost 2 (2007 IGF Winner)
http://www.samorost.net/samorost2/
Genre: Myst....(clickie puzzle adventure)
Author: Amanita Design (Brno, Czech Republic)
Addictiveness: @@
Good: Beautiful graphics, easy to get into
Bad: Not everyone's cup of tea, can be frustrating due to non-conventional puzzles
Ugly: Randomly clicking on the screen in hopes to find a hot spot
Description: A sequel to the original game with the same zany randomness. This time we join our hero on a quest to save his dog from aliens. Traverse the bizarre colorful world of samorost2 solving puzzles with a simple click of the mouse. Only the first level is available for play but it'll give you plenty of gameplay and the full game only costs $10.
Review: Not really a new game, I came across this gem a few years back. It was "discovered" this year and won the award for best web browser game. Admittedly, the graphics are beautiful and the music adds a nice ambience to the gameplay. I never really was a fan of this genre however I was compelled to play and save this man's dog. Note: to start the game after the intro, click on the dog house (took me awhile to figure this out ^^;...)
Gamma Bros (my Favorite of the three)
http://www.pixeljam.com/gammabros/
Genre: Shooter
Author: Pixeljam, Inc. (Chicago, IL, United States)
Addictiveness:@@@@@
Good: Pixelicious old school blaster
Bad: Too short, not enough power-ups
Ugly: We've come a long way since 8 bit graphics....
Description: Gamma Bros is a retro-style space shooter akin to classic arcade games like Galaga, Gradius and Robotron, but with a modern twist. Help your bros get through the most dangerous commute in the galaxy! (taken from IGF website)
Review: This game definitely captures the essence of an old school shooter. My only personal gripe is that the bosses don't seem badass enough. Don't get me wrong though, this game is definitely worth a try, the graphics and sound effects really bring back memories.
Bubble Islands
http://www.bubble-islands.com/
Genre: Puzzle (Block)
Author: dot-invasion (Villars-sur-Glâne, FR, Switzerland)
Addictiveness:@@@
Good: Cutesy Puyo-Puyo clone
Bad: No Multi-player Support
Ugly: The difficulty scales exponentially so that the last few opponents seem like they cheat...
Description: Bubble Islands is an arcade/puzzle game featuring 10 cute and different characters. Challenge your opponents, connect your bubbles and preserve your island in a series of funny but competitive duels! Will you be able to get the Isaac Key and open the Olympus Chest? (taken from IGF website)
Review: If you like Dr. Mario, Puyo Puyo, or any puzzle variant of the same nature, you'll feel right at home with this game. The gameplay is fluid and the controls are simple (the spacebar doubles up as dropping blocks and flipping it). This game would have won the contest hands down if they had implemented multi-player support. With two different modes to play, this game should keep any puzzle enthusiast busy for quite a while.

I made a group 'schlag2b' if you want to compare scores.
I still haven't beat Hard yet. I'm fond of the asymmetrical maze design.

Name: Meteor Buster
Genre: Shooter
Author: Dot-Invasion
Good: 2D-shooter at its best
Bad: The only enemy you'll have to destroy is asteroids...
Ugly: Even with just asteroids this game gets pretty hard later on!
This brings back memories of my gameboy...
Controls:
Arrow keys to move ship
Spacebar to shoot
Enter/Return to start game/pause/switch weapon+ship type

Yet another TD game. Haven't had a chance to see how good it is yet.
