why did you post this? Seriously?

And of course the answer is it depends. Where do you want to go?

Nope. It's based on where you're going and what direction your going. The standard concept is that at any entrance and exit in between the start and stop of the toll section you have to pay fidy cents. At the greenway side you have to pay some obscene amount, like three fidy or something (must be some damn loch ness monster or something at that end). At the 495 side you have to pay seventy-five. So if you're not going out past dulles the max you would pay in one direction would be one fidy. The min would be one. Double that for the round trip. Now there are some entrances and exits where you do not have to pay a toll (they didn't build the plazas because there would have either been too much traffic or there wasn't enough space). For people adept at knowing these and who have the time to drive a bit farther, you can halve your fees. Let me see if I can remember them. You never have to pay when going to and from the airport, unless you're getting on at an area that doesn't support getting on or off the middle lanes. You don't have to pay when going eastbound and exiting at whiele. You don't have to pay when going westbound and entering at reston pkwy and possibly fairfax cty pkwy. You don't have to pay when going westbound on 7 and entering westbound on the toll road. There's no toll when going eastbound on the toll round and exiting westbound on 7. I think I might be missing some. There also is the fact that if you exit near where I live you pay fidy cents, but if you go 25 yds further you have to pay seventy-five, but you stay on the 66 spur. That's why I always get off at 123 and don't stay on the 66 spur going home. It would be faster to stay on, but I would have to pay fidy cents everytime rather than nothing. (Now you're wondering why fidy rather than one fidy since I would be going through 2 toll plazas. But see they have a bypass and you only go through one for springhill in that direction) This is subject to change since they're apparently not getting enough money to build the metro out to where I live so they're thinking of increasing the tolls again.

It would have been much easier if you had just said where you wanted to go and how much time you had to get there.

Ride your bike you fatass!
It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but it doesn't take any to just sit there with a dumb look on your face.

From my place to somewhere in Herndon/Reston area. I am just wondering if it's worth it to take the toll road vs I66->whatever.

Again depends on where you're going. If it's close to 28 or 50 then you probably want to take 66. Otherwise you probably want to take the toll road.
