noisy wireless

Post by Jonathan »

Our new apartment has a lot of access points nearby.

1 4mbit wireless , pdxjazz/ quality wireless/ wifitoolbox
6 airport , cn85pmpm
11 x4423n5,
9 mapt / wygant visitor, netgear

Everything to the left of a comma has several bars. Everything to the right has 0.

I'm on 1 now. Amber seems to be losing authentication recently. I'm thinking about moving to 3. Thoughts?

I think you're screwed anyway you look at it. I wish people knew that there were really only 3 channels with no overlap. Would make things at least a little easier.

I'm trying 4 for now. I may experiment with 3 as well.

You might need to switch to MIMO based wireless cards and routers in order to cut through all that noise. I've stopped using wireless partially because of noise and partially because I'm too used to using dual monitors with my laptop. If I'm plugging in the monitor, I may as well plug in the extra networking wire as well. Besides, the wire is still faster for accessing my NAS.
