Sage

Post by Jonathan »

maybe I'm not using this right. anybody else using sage or another RSS reader? all I want is a big list of updated articles. instead, sage makes me click on each feed to see what is new. i have to manually click the Mark All As Read button or it doesn't remember that I already saw everything. There's no way to mark all feeds as read, just the articles in one feed.

All this means that in order to use Sage, I must click each updated feed and let it load in turn, look at the articles, then Mark All As Read before clicking on the next feed. I fail to see why this is an improvement over Open in Tabs.

also, i can't use slashdot's feed because it constantly tells me that I've been banned for abusing their feed's TOS.

Maybe you have tons more feed than I do, but it wasn't that trouble some for me when I was using it.

I have 17 plus Slashdot, which doesn't seem like a huge number.

All I'm saying is that if I wanted to click on every bloody site, I'd use bookmarks. Actually, bookmarks involve less clicking because I don't have to manually mark which ones I've read already.

I don't remember having to click on every site. I just hit update and it updates all my feeds, I had other complain about sage but it's a different issue from yours.

I'm saying once you hit update, all it does is give you a bold face and a red dot. To get the bold face and red dot to go away or to see the actual content, you must click on each thing, no? Whereas with Open in Tabs, I click once and all the web pages are opened for me. It's much faster to close the ones that have no update than to wait for Sage to load each thing serially and then click on them one-by-one.

All I have to add to this conversation is that I highly recommend bloglines or a similar web rss aggregator. It really helps with the fact that I can be at any computer in the world and it remembers what I've read and what's new. Also, I've added everyone's blog to my feeds so I never have to check your websites to figure out if you have actually written something this month or not.
