Relay Access Denied

Post by skanks »

Sometimes when I send mail from my mail client I get an error:

An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: <friend@friend.com>: Relay Access Denied. Please verify that your email address is correct in your Mail preferences and try again.

I don't always get this error. I just sometimes get this error. Sometimes I just wait for a few hours and then it sends just fine.

What do I need to do to fix this?

It sounds like something funny with your mail provider. What service are you using?

Something similar might be like what CMU does. They won't relay a message sent from a non-CMU IP address to another non-CMU email address.
