This is because I had no idea where the light house was. Still don't, in fact.

Just opened FFXI 8)

No mouse pad though. Seems that I have a "free 30-day trial premium membership to Allakhazam.com, the Internet's premier MMORPG information site" instead.

After just glancing at the mammoth 144 page instruction manual, I think I have some reading to do (not to mention assembling the 2nd bike I now have, vacuuming, doing laundry, getting my suit and stuff ready for the wedding, and generally cleaning my apartment to not get yelled at too badly by my mother).

Stupid responsibilities...

The manual was surprisingly unhelpful. It mostly goes into detail about the interface. This a good thing, but it doesn't include a lot of helpful information about playing the game. The web is a better source for that.

Incidently, I wonder what the hell a premium membership to allakhazam nets you, as I have never tried to access something on their site that required a login.

You should install the game when you have other things to do.

Otherwise you'll sit down with 3 hours of free time, ready to play, start installing, and 3 hours later the game will be installed and you'll be all ready to play but you'll be busy again.

just make sure to click when neede, like starting the patch installation etc. or else it'll just sit there and wait. playonline view doesn't run either if you have another window selected.

Btw, alcoholed all 5 discs in ~25 minutes earlier. Let's see if I can install FFXI through remote desktop...

(note: had to do that anyway because my main box doesn't have an optical drive :()

Quick Question:

After installing, do I need to keep the images around, or can I free the ~3 gb of space?

just install it like a normal person and log on! hehe
It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but it doesn't take any to just sit there with a dumb look on your face.
