I implemented and discontinued the View new posts link for the same reasons. For heavy or low traffic boards, these things can serve some function, but I get the impression that even the most casual Mohtalim readers (Bob, Martin) pretty much read all the posts, even if it is less than once per month.
Regardless of reading all the posts or not, an RSS feed saves polling overhead. I know Jason uses an RSS reader ( bloglines? ) and I do as well ( google reader ), so at least two people should benefit ;)

I use Google Reader myself, but I unsubscribed from the RSS feed back when we had it. See my arguments above.

Anyway, if y'all like it so much I'll dig out the code again.
