Half-life 2

Post by somethinghumble »

I have really enjoyed Half-life with its countless free mods and would sometime in my life time like to play the sequel. Hell, i've spent 100 times over more time playing the mods than time spent on the original game, which is saying a lot cuz I devoted most of my freshman year of college to it.

so... what the hell could be taking so long? Why the huge delay? I mean, wasn't the source code stolen by hackers like 2 years ago? The amount of time that the release date has been moved back is starting to compare to the gap in time From the sequels of freddy, jason, predators, and aliens To the freddy vs jason and predator vs alien. Hello!!! am I the only one who noticed this incredable span of time. what in red, white and blue blazes are those fat bastards doing over there at valve? Are they waiting for the whole 'terrorist' thing to calm down?

halflife2.net is already claiming to be the largest HL2 community in the world. Hmmm.. makes me wanna start up my own largest doom 4 community. why stop there... maybe i'll start the world war 3 history channel or the earth to mars express. halflife2.net already has eleven affiliates, boasting websites about nothing but our not released sequel.

hl2world.com already features tutorials on mapping, modeling, and whoknows what else for hl2.

Counterstrike 2 or "CS: source" has at least just come out with some video demos. And it is "a port of the original modification to the Source engine" which HL2 is founded on. sigh. valve even slipped up and put the full text of Half-Life 2's story line in CS 2's engine. well discovered by some nosey nerds. If thats not a slap in valve's face to get the ball rolling i don't know what is.

you guys probably think i've whined my little black heart out but here's what gets me the most: this quote is from the halflife2.net faq section,
halflife2.net wrote:Q: Will I have to use Steam with Half-Life 2?

A: Yes. Steam is the backend for Half-Life 2. It does a bunch of different things, like acting as the launcher, authentication, Friends, updating, and so on. One thing it does is that it also allows you to purchase things. If you buy Half-Life 2 in a store, it has Steam in it. If you buy Half-Life 2 via Steam, well, then it obviously has Steam in it.
i may just have to start a whiners topic for steam too. :x

imho, the whole september launch date last year was bs. the game just wasn't that close to being done. the source code theft is a convenient scapegoat.

currently, valve is a one-hit wonder. granted, hl is a pretty fucking big hit even without cs, but they really haven't done anything to earn my confidence. especially with the steam missteps. if hl2 is greater than sliced bread and cs:more stuff after the colon makes me want to crap my pants and wet myself, then i will get it and play it. but for now i will just finish out d3 and play a little ns and cs.

actually, for now i won't play jack because it's too damn hot to use the computer. note to world: do not place computer in room without ac.

is a decent preview of it. I'd try to find/download it, but it will probably die on my pc.

and on the topic of steam, even though I really hate when steam messes up, I think is a decent frontend for gaming, even if I only will play one game on it. If they ever get the friends list to work consistently (steal AIM code!) it is a great way to meet up with friends that arent friends enough to give IM names to. When it does work, I can just sign onto steam, check the friends list and join any of those games. Since it doesnt work at all recently, I have to check irc to know what's up, since most of the people on my list are in my clan. Which brings me to another point. UT had irc functionality that I am surpised was removed in ut2k3/4 and was never in any other games. I thought irc access was great in UT.

um, back to work.

I want to awp steam's ugly fat foot. Steam alone cannot access its own network or something... yet all my other apps can see the internet. And now this is the error message it is giving me:

Steam - Error
Unable to connect to the Steam network. Offline mode is unavailable because the 'Exit and logout" option was used when you last exited Steam.
You will not be able to use Steam until you can connect to the Steam network again. To check the status of the Steam network please visit http://steampowered.com/status

ok

bs. offline is offline why the fuck would i need to login online when i want to access it offline... 1 minute ago i used it offline because it would not connect to its own worthless server. I accidently hit 'exit and logout' and not 'exit' which shouldn't matter in the first place because i was not logged in to begin with.

someone please explain this before i admin slay_valve...

I've been needing a CS fix for quite some time now (I've gotten the shakes a few times), but I seem to have lost my halflife install. I found the cdkey in my old registry, but without the installer I'm out of luck. I've almost considered buying the CZ for 30 bucks because it's just a few easy clicks through steam. Damn Valve!! If they had just had hl2 come out by now I wouldn't be in this perdicament.

cz != cs. CZ from what I hear blows chunks. You dont even need your cd anymore I dont think, just your key. Steam lets you download and install CS 1.6 completely, with a smaller version avaiable if you already have an older version of CS installed.

So unless your key was banned for hacking or something, you should be to get a steam_id and play after downloading everything

Really? I didn't see the option for that. The key is a really old halflife key that I think might have been Alex's, but he never used it so I doubt there's a problem with it.

Damn, I can feel the urge rising. I need to get home and try this out. Stupid doing nothing at work. It's destroying my CS time.
