Off the top of my head:

DAOC:

The good: fairly quick leveling (compared to EQ and FFXI), established economy, proven pvp system, stable player base, excellent controls

The bad: little low to mid level content, until you reach 50 all you can do is camp spawns for leet exp, crafting results in equipment ranging from 94 to 100% quality, forcing multiple remakes for good equipment, driving up the prices, and there's a hostile, elitist mentality in the pvp community.

FFXI:

The good: loads and loads of content, established economy, stable servers, fun pvm system (renkei, bursts), the job system

The bad: no pvp yet (though I don't think pvp is really needed in this game), slow leveling, forced grouping after level 10 or so, unconventional control system (though they're fine once you get used to them)

pvp is ALWAYS needed. dude.

i'm just curious as to how well it works out. i know in EQ it's a shameful sham, dunno about DAoC but i think it works out a lot better.

PvP is DAoC was awesome. The coolest MMORPG experience I can remember was my first time sieging a castle in DAoC in the low level battlefields. Very well done I thought...

I tend to agree that this game doesn't need PvP though, hope it doesn't mess things up.

Yeah I think it's pretty much a given that DAOC is the only MMORPG that successfully implemented a PvP system. UO kind of did, depending on your perspective (ie whether you were the ganker or the ganked).

ok, pvp will be interesting. I'm surethey will come up with checks and balances to make group/mass pvp fun.

Heh yep, in DAOC scouts ruled the battlefield until they "toned them down".

And I shudder to think what a group of high level black mages that have been invisiblized would be like.

"Lah dee dah, such a nice, peaceful day."

Group of 6 black mages "decloak"

I think Invisible will probably be nerfed for PvP.
