This is the core of the machine I'm thinking about building. It is modest in displacement and power consumption. The GA-H270M is a Micro ATX form factor, so I need a corresponding case+PSU. I also need an M.2 SSD. My rotational media is on the network and thus won't be in the box. I'll probably get a mouse because I hate my current mouse; I might get a keyboard or I might skip it. I need an HDMI cable.
What am forgetting? A quick glance at what I assume is the last thread reveals:
HSF: It's a 65W part (no 'K'). I'm going to use stock and it'll be fine.
OS: I have a thumb drive with 16.04 on it. Is 17.04 a thing yet?
Monitor: 1080p ought to be enough for anybody
Speakers: I have an old 80s amp I plug my speakers into. It's kind of shitty. An amp that accepts S/PDIF would be suuuuper sweet.
So, any SSD or mouse recommendations?
*As far as I'm concerned, this is the Dad edition of the Mohtalim hardware thread, not the 2017 edition. Presumably, the next version will be the midlife-crisis edition and will feature Ferrari red boxen.
What are you gonna do with this machine? Just browse the web? Why not just get a tablet?
Optical drive for blu-ray?
Card reader/usb(3/c)/esata port box for the front of the system if not built into the case?
Are either of those even still a thing?
How is this a "Dad" box if you don't even have kids!

??? It's my gaming box. Hence the $250 GPU?

Physical media! How quaint!

Don't you use an array of 30" monitors at work? I swapped to a 2560x1440 at home and wish I had 2x of these at work. As for Hz, I game and really couldn't say if going from 60hz to 144hz did anything for me.
It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but it doesn't take any to just sit there with a dumb look on your face.

I was going to make some comment about how you haven't grown up yet since you're still living in an apartment, but you're a hipster in Portland, so it's kinda redundant.
I often find that enough WinOS cruft and game cruft builds up in a year or so that having only 256GB isn't enough. One major culprit on windows machines is itunes if you have an iphone... It want's to put backups in AppData and the workaround I use now rather than messing with the registry is to use a hard link to point to the backups on a different drive. Backing up A 128GB phone takes a significant portion of 256GB oddly enough and multiple phones/tablets makes it worse. I wonder what your experiences in linux will be when living with just a 256GB drive.
