Quick clarification: your sub's level is not 50% of what it is normally. Instead, your sub's level is capped at 50% of your main. For instance, if you were 20 WAR/ 20 THF and choose WAR/THF, it'd be interpreted as 20 WAR/ 10 THF. Reversed, you'd be 20 THF/ 10 WAR. If you were a 20 WAR and 6 THF and you went THF/WAR, you'd only get 3 of your WAR levels.
Alright, so I'll probably be playing a Red Mage as main, and will level both BlM and WhM for subs, and switch between them as necessary. Probably will do BlM first though.
Now all I need to decide is what race to use, Hume or Tarutaru. Tarutaru has the huge edge in MP, but sucks in the other departments. And they look pretty ridiculous. Hume looks cooler but at high levels, will have like over 200 less mp than a similar level Tarutaru. Hume are also less frail though so would die less.
Decisions, decisions.

heh, glancing at the jobs list, unless there is some completely broken class combo that just rapes, I would be theif main and ninja sub. Mostly because they have improved chance to get items. and that's what I'm all about! min-maxing stat haxing! and ninja, just so when i get those 2 uber swords, i want to use both of em!
then again, if theifs die too much, Ill switch to some other warrior class. It's what happened in AC2 with Defender (tank, die once a week) and Bounty Hunter (items/dual weild die once a day). probably dragoon since i love the idea of a melee class with pets, which were overpowered in AC2.
loleol
my goal in every rpg = dual weild glowing swords

It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but it doesn't take any to just sit there with a dumb look on your face.
