Flash Game: Typing Mania 4 - Romaji Madness

Direct SWF Link (to play full screen, can't save and play offline with just that file though)

Playing Comments:
  • None of the Japanese lyrics have spaces.
  • When spaces do appear, they’re displayed as underscores, but you can use Space.
  • You do not need to capitalize English words.
The above comments are from the blog post I discovered this game from. Quirks behind the romaji transliteration are also mentioned there for the interested.

Other Comments:
  • Several songs are NOT in Japanese (see Caramelldansen (Swedish) under Nightmare Mode)
  • There is feedback lag for quick bursts of typing (flash sucks!). If you don't need feedback, feel free to rush, but don't make a mistake unless you want a slew of unintentional misses.
  • I found having non-moving small font romaji get highlighted is easier than relying on the shifting large letters, however some songs have hiragana instead
  • Somewhat addictive, but definitely very hard at the higher levels
  • Traditional typing skills might not help for non-English words
  • If you don't like the music you can always mute it!

"Origa - Rise - Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd Gig Opening"
is all in English, but also level 13 (hardest difficulty, under nightmare mode) if you want to try something fast but more "traditional". It's also < 90 seconds.

My first try was a "D" rank :(

Songs with mostly / all English words are definitely better for me though. For example, I AAA'd Utada Hikaru's rendition of "Fly me to the Moon" (level 11, under hard mode) on my first try (made lots of stupid mistakes too, silly colons)

Must... stop... playing.

Aside: I'm really surprised there isn't a super profitable typing rhythm game already. Guess that goes along with Piano Hero, etc.
