The Nehalem Preview: Intel Does It Again

Without Intel's approval, supervision, blessing or even desire - we went ahead and snagged us a Nehalem (actually, two) and spent some time with them.

I may quickly need to change the title to the plural.

Just to make sure, a good time to buy a PC is
NOT now, but near Nehalem's release date (2008 Q4?) or slightly later?
1920x1080p h264 encodes using VMR9 (renderless) can still bring my CPU to its knees

(
I can workaround this with overlay mode, but the colors are distorted and I have lower resolution subtitles. Switching back and forth is annoying too!)

It is always a good idea to buy a computer!
That said, I will be personally offended if everyone here doesn't buy at least one Nehalem!

What's the timeframe for Nehalem? On wikipedia I see the Westmere variant coming out in 2010. That looks about right on schedule for me.

Otellini told shareholders Nehalem was on track to launch in the second half of 2008.
