Okay, I admit I have no idea why there's a "4th of July demand shock". What is so special about Independence Day!?!?!

The Fourth of July causes a large shock to demand in the
Washington Park area – the only area for which we were collecting data on that date –
due to the presence of a large number of outsiders attending local festivities in the park.

It's just because people come to see the fireworks, then they're downtown and bored. It's not that July 4 is National Prostituting Day or nothing.

Also, I read somewhere that, in general, certain types of crime increase on holidays, especially those in the summer due to people having free time to do things they normally wouldn't. You know what they say about idle hands ...
