I have to admit, I think I'm going to get one of these at launch. I'm definitely going to get one with WiMax and 802.11n, whenever that comes out.

Hmm, Cingular exclusive. Well, I haven't been too excited with T-Mobile recently, so I'm not opposed to switching. I was mildly excited about Sprint's WiMax network, but it was simply to get a device like this in 2008, so I guess Cingular in 2007 is OK.

But you have a PDA with WiFi. That's why I'd get a iPhone, as a replacement for the LifeDrive I didn't buy and the Nokia 770 tablet I did buy.

Once again, Ars thinks exactly the same way I do.

The original iPhone is for early adopters. Ars and I believe there will be mainstream versions at mass-market price points.

If I buy an I-anything while still driving a corolla someone slap me

You need to pimp that corolla. Drop it, or lift it, and add tailfins. Oh yeah.

I'm guessing bird poop isn't the type of pimping you're talking about.

Although I'm approaching 3 years w/o a car wash. (unless you count hurricanes)

iCorolla! Just pry an "i" off someone else's car and glue it onto yours.

But it’s not like the walled garden has gone away. “You don’t want your phone to be an open platform,” meaning that anyone can write applications for it and potentially gum up the provider's network, says Jobs. “You need it to work when you need it to work. Cingular doesn’t want to see their West Coast network go down because some application messed up.”
Nevermind. Third party applications have to go through Apple. Wake me when I can get a device I have root on, not Steve Jobs.

Fun fact: Cingular's Treo lets you install any third-party apps you want.

Looks like $500+ is a 50%+ markup on the phones not even counting the fact that Cingular is subsidizing Apple as well... Apple's got a new goldmine.
