Also worth noting is that D.C.'s air quality was apparently worse than Code Red earlier this summer.

In California, this is a stage 2 alert. The only measure to take after this is to start rolling blackouts...
What was worse than the alerts out here 2 weeks ago was the fact that the local transformers couldn't handle the load and were blacking out fairly large areas.
"This thing has affected all 48 states at one time or another," said Dennis Feltgen, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. "That's an impressive heat wave."
Yep, same heat wave that was here 2 weeks ago. It was over 90 in my apartment. Air conditioning is not standard out here.

Their curtailing building development in certain areas of northern va now because the power grid can't handle the extra load. It's pretty sad.

If that's true and it's a desireable area, then property values will likely rise faster than average...
