I think if the Republicans can't find a Southerner to run against him, they're in trouble.

I think the real trick will be for him to get the name recognition to secure the Democratic nomination.

Well, I gotta say after looking at a couple of the issues pages on his website, I'm unimpressed. I have yet to see a minority candidate at the presidential level that was able to look beyond their own race (though I didn't pay much attention to Powell, who might have qualified).

And his home-state-ism is pretty sick too. His energy "plan" is basically replace gas with ethanol and Illinois coal. Not coal or American coal, but specifically the kind of coal mined around Illinois.
