I just beat a game with three possible endings. In the "best" two endings, the hero dies and is immediately sent to Hell. In the "bad" ending, he commits suicide in such a way that he simply ceases to exist, so he doesn't go to Hell. Thirty-something hours invested, just to choose the manner of his death... (In case you're wondering which game, "What can change the nature of a man?")
Still, not quite as bad as Shadowgrounds. You're about to kill the last member of the alien species that exterminated humanity, but you pause to let it explain itself. Turns out humans were on the brink of discovering a technology that would probably destroy the solar system. So, to prevent humanity from wiping out humanity, the aliens wiped out humanity. The end.
And even that beats Myst, in which I needed a hint book to tell me I'd already beaten the game.

I feel like I just beat a kitten to death... with a bag of puppies.
