Alien Swarm

Post by Vyrosama »

Free mod on steam. Alien themed gauntlet (co-op upto 4ppl). Anyone interested?

http://store.steampowered.com/app/630/

I like the trailer where one of the players gets crushed by a door...

I am playing this tonight with some friends. I'll let you know what I think.

Protip: read all the keybindings before you play!

Also, it's not a mod because you don't need to own a game to play it. It has the depth of a mod, though.

Yea I learned about the key bindings the hard way. I didn't know how to switch weapons so I kept on pressing the traditions fps bindings (1,2,3...) which instead yielded unexpected results (like spamming the screen with combat flares or wielding a random door).

Yea it's not a mod of any game but a game that was development by devs from the mod community (probably a mod of the source engine?)

I didn't know how to pick ammo off the floor, so I ran out and died standing on top of ammo while looking through the keybindings.

It is a port of a UT2004 mod to the Source engine.

Welp, beat the Normal campaign with 2 experienced players and myself. Then we started the Hard campaign with the experienced players promoted and myself as medic.

A lone soldier on Hard will get quickly overwhelmed in some areas.

It's surprising how far a lone soldier can go, though.

For free this is definitely worth checking out. I still have yet to hack anything. I don't think it will have super long longevity but it's good times.

HIgh level tech with flamer is all you really need; sometimes you also can use a sentry gun.

Have been enjoying Onslaught mode, which replaces some (but not all!) of the canned aliens with L4D Director-type spawns. But no L4D-style ammo/weapons/health, sadly. Anyway, random shield bugs and headcrabs make one play with different tactics, which I enjoy.
