left 4 Dead

Post by Vyrosama »

After reading the review, I'm very tempted to get this....anyone else want to play?...I promise I won't shoot you in the back (unless a zombie is munching on your head). Upto 4 people can co-op or you can do team pvp 4vs4. The only downside I've read is that it only ships with 4 maps and of which only 2 are pvp-able. It shouldn't be that big of deal since it does have procedural spawning (if you are breezing through the map, it'll spawn more zombies and less ammo or if you're getting destroyed it'll spawn more weapons/heal kits), several levels of difficulty, and eventually either valve or the fan community will release more maps. 8)

An interesting setup might be 4 humans vs. zombie dave...or dave and 3 human bots vs 4 zombies

I'm tempted, and I already have Steam!

However, I still need to get a microphone. I've been thinking of a free-standing one as opposed to a headset though.

Example: Logitech 980186-0403 Silver USB Connector USB Desktop Microphone

Any thoughts?

from my experience, it's always been a pain to use stand alone mics. You either have to scream loudly so that everyone can hear you or tilt your head near the mic on your desk (which is difficult/awkward when you are playing a game). If you find one of those combo microphone/headsets...let me know. Maybe I'll just buy a cheap one from best buy or something.

maybe this?

I did wonder a bit about directionality...

If I used headphones, I'd like to use my Sennheiser HD-595s, but all the microphone headphone add-ons I found in the past sucked (at least I thought I found them...) I also find it nice to have nothing on my head (sans glasses) most of the time :/

I typically just put the headphones w/ mic around my neck and keep the sound through the speakers and use a push-to-talk button (leftshift) when I was using vent for CS or WoW.

Soo, Jason, Vinny, Peijen there's a special going on $149 for four copies. If you guys are committed to play, I'll go ahead and buy it and gift you the extra copies (pay me back when you get chance)...you'll need to get steam for this gift system to work. Let me know 8)

Normally $49.99 each, so it's ~$12.50 in savings.

Count me in 8)

In a nutshell, it's one of those software/content/delivery browsers made by valve. I've used it to buy a few games and grab a few videos/demos. Also keeps you up to date with the latest valve deals like...you can now get Half Life 1 for $0.99.

A quick search hasn't led to any success with the vista score thing....is a 4 a good or bad thing?

lots of fun...more people should play! I even bought a mic for it! Advance/Expert mode campaign is fun and 4 vs. 4 would be badass.... 8)

For all of you who play, you might get a kick out of this remix of all the audio clips.....(NSFW audio-wise)

4 was pretty good. I thought it topped out at 5, but the plan was to add levels as time progressed and they seem to have introduced 6 already.

To watch later:

Kotaku wrote:Valve's Chet Faliszek is one of the guys responsible for the dialog and writing in some of Valve's greatest games, like Left 4 Dead and Portal.

So when we invited him on for our Very Special Kotaku Christmas Podcast we had more important things to ask him about. Questions like, what's going on with Old Man Murray and, When are you going to update Old Man Murray again? Don't worry we eventually got around to talking about how one goes about delivering a story without any cut scenes and what Left 4 Dead addicts can expect from the next update to Left 4 Dead. And, yes, he answered everything.
