Orange Box (HL2)

Post by Vyrosama »

Soo...who bought it and what do they think? Let me know so I can you to my friend list (which actually works now!) and we can play co-op!

For those who don't know, Orange Box is a compilation of Valve games including:

Half Life 2,
Half Life 2 Episode 1
Half Life 2 Episode 2 (new)
Portal (new)
Team Fortress 2 (new...finally out!!!!)

+ the standard Source Engine Mods:
Counter Strike:Source

I actually pre-ordered it just to be in the Team Fortress 2 Beta and I've been very pleased with what they have done to the game for the most part.

Good:
Has the same feel as the original with better game balancing and simplification/specialization of the various classes.

Bad:
For some reason, they totally got rid of grenades (probably to prevent grenade spamming) and the game doesn't add much new content/variety to the old general formula (but it does leave a lot of room for improvement and expansion).

Ugly:
There's a new feature where if you get repeatedly killed by the same player he becomes your nemesis. The next time you kill him, the trumpets will blare in an old batman tune emphasizing that you got "revenge" with a zoomed in screencap of you smiling over said dead nemesis

oh the only lame thing about the orange box is that it's currently the ONLY way to get team fortress 2. So if you already own HL2, you'll now own 2 copies of the same game.

Steam/Valve's lame way of making you buy more than you want. To alleviate some this, I can now "gift" my extra copy of HL2 to someone...so anyone interested?

I've heard incredibly good things about portal. If it's anything like this, it sounds very tempting 8)

Stopping at level 28 since I need to make more hard drive space >_>

Meeee! :P.

Nothing is more satisfying than sneaking up behind the other team and stabbing them in the back just when they think they are about to win ^_^...

Vinny was planning to buying it just for portal...but I dunno if he'll come through with it....

I totally missed this thread.

Chuck and Dave. Ambiguous.

What's so great about the Orange Box other than that it has a bunch of games in it? I was never really sure why it got such spectacular reviews.

Or is Team Fortress 2 that good? I never played Team Fortress 1 so I guess I don't really get it.

I think it's perceived value for money.

That, and Portal. Not long enough to be released on its own, but stellar when viewed as a bundle-in.

Tons of my co-workers play it, and last weekend was another free TF2 weekend showcasing the Pyro enhancements.

Btw, random image link: pre-dnd4e alignment with TF2

After watching Wall-e I was reminding of Portal's antagonist.
