Peijen might like this. Eve hosts an annual arena tournament with large prizes going to the winners. Pandemic Legion has won their first round match. The format is two-tiered: first a round robin with a points system for kills, with the winners of that part moving on to a single elimination tournament bracket.
An annual tournament favors true skill a bit more than an arena grind with catassing and poopsocking your way to the top of a ladder.

The Vigil was set up for speed. The classic counter to the Caracal's dampeners would be Friend or Foe missiles which don't require target locks. However, they shoot the closest ship. The Vigil zoomed in, trained all the enemy missiles onto him, and kited them for the rest of the match.
For a really close fight, check the Cult of War versus Chaos Incarnate match where the underdog comes from behind. Also, the comedy option is the Derek Knows Us fight.

The subsequent rounds are up on the above link. PL won 4 out of 5 qualifying fights, and subsequently entered the single elimination portion. We got 2nd, which is pretty good, but our CEO initially told the GMs not to give the us the faction reward so we stand to lose about ~20B isk in prizes. Oops.
