Free (core version), simple VPN, great for LAN games (bnetd, what?)

Just in case people didn't know of it. I just heard about it from a co-worker yesterday, who uses it for WarCraft3.

Used it last semester to get around stupid port-forwarding issues when trying to use remote desktop tools and stuff. It's quite stable and very useful.

You guys ever used Kali back in the day?

We directly dialed into each other's modems to play WC and WC2, cuz this whole "Internet" thing was too hard.

Haha yeah I used Kali. I think I used it for a couple games but the only one I remember was Command & Conquer.

Nope, never used Kali personally, but I vaguely remember hearing about it.

Since IPX conjured up images of the past, "back in my day..." LAN parties involved physically moving hardware!

Question. What do your LAN involve now, if not physically moving hardware?

Er, are you asking how to hold a LAN party without physically moving hardware?

If that's what you mean, that's why I mentioned Hamachi, although then it's really a VLAN party instead of a LAN party. Regarding communication, there's always TeamSpeak and Ventrilo, then again, I still don't own a microphone.

Yeah, that should have been "LAN parties" not "LAN".

I use TS all the time in Eve. I understand the default codec is crap, but it ships with a couple of decent alternatives. Just raise the bandwidth.

Really, then, you/your friends are using Hamachi as a workaround of battle.net because Blizzard failed to provide an online mechanism that allows private games? I ask out of curiosity. I've never played WC3.

Hah, VLAN Dofus. It's local, sure, it's the same continent.

Ventrilo sucks ass. We tried using it for school and it totally sucked. Of course, we were trying to network together 40 people on the same Wireless LAN too...

I didn't ask, so I don't know. I do know the friend I talked with owns it though. As for never playing WC3, you have my condolences.

Indeed. I just brought it up since lots of FFXI groups seems to use an older version of it for communication. I think the free newer versions cap the number of users, unless you register it of course.

Ah, remember the good old days of Rainbow Six and phone chains?

We were so young then...

When the Starcraft MMO comes out, we should all play it after at least 3 weeks
It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but it doesn't take any to just sit there with a dumb look on your face.
