Revelations, the latest content expansion for Eve, explains character creation much better, plays faster, and is more fun. You should play the 14 day free trial again.

• Travel is greatly streamlined by the ability to warp to 0km.
• New characters have been boosted a lot to improve the newbie experience.

Neal, you should try Eve again because newbie ships are more powerful and PvP combat takes longer. Also, the missions and random PvE encounters are more fun and varied.
Dave, you should try Eve again because the new character creation actually explains the choices you make, and a new character gets enough skills to have a lot of ship setup options without training any skills.
Peijen and Jason, you should play because Eve is the only game where ransoms and highway robbery --- "Your money or your life!" --- are actually profitable. Also, any ship can cloak.
Everyone else should play Eve because new players get a lot of learning skills now and the learning curve/cliff has been reduced so you can really play the game on a 2-week trial account, not just wander around helplessly.
