I could have posted this under Peijen's business model topic. SG has moved to a new business model. You can play the game for free with no level limit. However, the units of paid subscribers do 11% more damage and level faster after level 50. Paid subscribers also get access to the political features, which were mostly a joke when I played. Finally, paid subscribers have a 20% higher cap on their attributes.
I wonder if this is a last-ditch effort to squeeze another couple of years of revenue from this game or if has translated into revenue growth for them (by lowering the barrier to entry). I assume it is the former, but it would be really interesting if they achieved the latter.
I'm going to have to try to run this game under Cedega since it's free now.
