mmorpg subscriptions

Post by Jonathan »

Since WoW hit 2M subscribers, http://mmorpgchart.com released a new update.

Dying: SB, AC2, Horizons, AO, TSO

Still making it happen: UO, DAOC, SWG, EQx.

Didn't take a hit from WoW: FFXI

Took a hit from WoW but kept on ticking: CoH. They actually put on subscriptions recently.

Steadily adding subscribers:
Sci Fi - Eve Online: I'd play this if the early game wasn't so damn slow.
Cheap - Runescape: in Java!
Social - Second Life: Will shortly be crowned winner of social games over TSO and There.

PP is growing slowly. ATITD is not growing at all. No Saga of Ryzom data.

The most interesting chart is this one: http://mmorpgchart.com/Chart5.html

I haven't seen it before. Basically, it shows that the launch of WoW has essentially doubled the number of active MMORPG subscribers, ignoring Asian MMOGs.

Yea, for most of the people in my guild(s) WoW is their 1st MMORPG. I'm sure a lot of wow players are Starcraft/Warcraft/Diablo fans and would play any game Blizzard releases. Even Lost Vikings 3D.
It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but it doesn't take any to just sit there with a dumb look on your face.
