temperature vs drunkenness

Does warm alcohol make you drunk faster than not-warm alcohol? I had a glass of hot sake tonight* and it seemed pretty potent. Or do I just need to go to more parties?

*Heated by pouring the sake into a pyrex cup and placing the pyrex into a small pot of water on the stove. This is similar to the correct way to heat a standard bottle of pancake syrup, in case you feel like having hot syrup without melting the bottle.

The temperature of the alcohol has no effect on it's ... err ... effectiveness.

How much and what you have eaten during the day, how much you've been drinking recently, how fucked up your liver is right now, how hydrated you are, and how good looking the women around you are however are all factors that can lead to you getting drunk faster.

And yes you need to go to more parties. I always advocate that.

Depending on the sake, it has more alcohol by volume than, say, most wine or mixed cocktails. But less than, say, pure vodka.

16% by volume, and I had 8oz, so 1.28 oz of alcohol.
Compare that to my usual, a drink with 80 proof (40%) tequila, and it needs 3.2 oz of tequila for the same 1.28 oz of alcohol.

So, depending on how strong of a mixed drink I would make, the glass of sake would have somewhere between the same and about twice as much alcohol per glass. Good call, Jonathan.

You want to talk about intoxicating, see Bacardi 151. We have found that it is completely unpalatable no matter how you prepare it unless you use it to make a rum and coke. However, I find it very satisfying as part of a rum and coke, so we keep some around.
