But does that mean I'll have to work for a government contractor for the rest of my career? That would get boring I think.

Nope. It just means you need to be better at your current job than many others :)

Bottom line, people should just pick whatever field of work they want. Chances are good that if they're truly interested in the topic at hand (ie. not just concerned about $$$), they'll excel anyway.
