Sounds reasonable enough. It's also the one of two game-based movie sequels that come to mind at the moment; the other being Mortal Kombat.

Is Milla Jovovic still in it? If so I'll watch it no matter what kind of reviews it gets.

Hmm, perhaps I should watch the first sometime. Then again, neither seem especially appealing to me...

Yes, she's still the female lead.

The first one was reasonably good. I saw it on Starz, so it was free mod the price of cable. It's at least as good as Mortal Kombat, which I still enjoy watching on cable.

I didn't think the first Resident Evil movie was good. Watchable, yes, but not good. I think Tomb Raider was better than Resident Evil 1, and I'll agree that RE1 was better than Mortal Kombat. All in all, I don't think any movie made that was based off of a video game was that good.

The new chick in it is even better.

I'll see it, because I see just about every action movie that comes out. I'd say RE1 was a little below MK1. I've seen MK1 on TV so many times now that I'm sick of it, but when I first saw it I thought it was pretty good. My ranking for the various game movies that I can remember is:

MK1 > RE1 > Street Fighter > MK2 > Tomb Raider 1 > Tomb Raider 2 > D&D.

I expect RE2 to fall somewhere in between MK1 and SF. The previews make it look better than RE1.

Interesting factoid: Up until around senior year at CMU, at least a third of the music groups I listened to were ones I had first heard on the Mortal Kombat soundtracks.

Hey George, you want to see it this weekend? Meet halfway in MD somewhere?

I should be going out tonight so I'm not sure how I'll be feeling on Saturday, but I can give you a call or something.

Yeah, that would be cool. I'm taking my car in for an oil change at 1:30 Sat, but some time later in the afternoon or early evening would be good.

Eerily, my game movie ratings are exactly the same as George, except I haven't seen SF, MK2, or TR2.

Man, D&D was so bad I can't even watch it on cable to mock. Last Samurai was at at least watchable enough that we could laugh at it.

Several of the movies listed on the link I've seen, but had forgotten. My new ranking is:

MK1 > RE1 > SF > MK2 > TR1 > TR2 > FF > WC > D&D > SMB > DD

Really, everything from Final Fantasy down is unwatchable with essentially no redeeming qualities. The Tomb Raiders and MK2 are tolerable, and MK2 has a good soundtrack. The top three are good, though not very good.

how can you rate MK2 better than TR1/2? I walked out of MK2 which is the only movie I have ever walked out of. TR1/2 is at least somewhat enjoyable watching boobies

(correction: watching padding.)

MK2's soundtrack was excellent; like Run Lola Run, the music made a mediocre movie memorable.

Also, MK2 had Sonya and that princess. Its been a long time since I saw the movie, but I remember both of them being pretty hot.

For me, Angelina Jolie's (apparent) bustiness was enough to counter her movies' general lameness and move them into the tolerable category. If the films were judged solely by the actresses, the breasts (and the movies they appeared in) might have won. However, MK2 had both acceptably hot actresses and a good soundtrack; it solidly beats both Tomb Raiders in my opinion.
