Deep and meaningful question

On to why I'm here. I have a decision to make, though I think I've already made in the time it took me to type in this poll. Nonetheless I will carefully consider and ignore any opinions you may have.

I voted BAR because everything is more fun when it's full automatic.

Yeah, there was one table with all pre-ban select fire stuff. The BAR was about the tamest thing they had. They had what looked like a mounted German MG-38(?), and something in a wooden box that I overheard the vendor price at $15000.

One of the other tables had an Armalite .50 bolt-action. Overkill for anything other than putting holes through a truck engine, but kind of fun to hold. And of course, there were dozens of AR-15s, but where's the fun in that. Only two FALs, both too expensive. There was a SPAS-12, too (with the pointlessly cool looking folding stock). Nothing at all like the one I put together with duct tape and foam for Where's the Package 2. About as impractical though. I did consider a Saiga-20 (think AK, but chambered for 20-gauge shotgun rounds), but decided that its better to wait until the ban expires in September and get one with a pistol grip. There was a good looking RPK, but the WASR was a lot cheaper, so I figure start with it. The guys selling the M44s (out of crates, still in their packing grease) also had a bunch of K98s and Yugoslavian SKS's, but the M44s were again much cheaper.

And all of them isn't really an option thanks to both budget and Maryland law. Damn one-per-thirty-days clause. The M44s aren't regulated, so I could walk away with ten if I wanted. The others have military-style features (as opposed to the M44s which actually are military issue) so they're regulated.

Well, this poll was exactly as useless as I predicted, but luckily I was able to make up my own mind. 8-10 days from now I'll be picking up my new "sporting" AK variant (the WASR). I also have 1000 rounds of 7.62x39 FMJ sitting on my dresser until I figure out where to put it.

Turns out that $80 is too much to pay for an M44, so I passed on those. I'd have to have had it checked out by a gunsmith which would add to the price too. The Saiga-20 is restricted even without a pistol grip, so I have to wait a month before buying one anyway. Better to wait for the pistol grip version. And for the price of the pre-ban select-fire stuff I could buy a post-ban gun a month for the rest of the year.

There were Desert Eagles (probably not the .50 cal version) being sold, but I wasn't really looking for semi-automatic pistols.

Clearly you should start a militia now.

Or join the Ying-Yang Assault Squad!

No, those were M-16s. My arch nemeses. However, I could form a competing regiment and our emblem could be AK-47s around a ying-yang symbol. Far more original and much 1337-er.

I was just looking at a flyer one of the dealers handed out (the one I'll probably be buying my Saiga-20 from) and noticed that it advertised .44 and .50 caliber Desert Eagles for $100 off. $100 off what it didn't say so I'd guess you'd pay $600-700 judging from the prices of the other guns. And I don't know where you'd buy ammo. There was some obscure stuff at the show, but I only saw .50 BMG rounds (the huge ones for machine guns and that Armalite rifle).

Oh yeah, it occurs to me that I never explained this thread. For those who haven't guessed, I went to a gun show this weekend. I was originally looking to kill some time and maybe pick up a .357 revolver. However, there were large numbers of military surplus and military style firearms at reasonable prices. As I browsed, my plan changed and eventually I settled on an AK-47 clone (the mostly Romanian import WASR-10) for $300. However, in Maryland you have to take a handgun safety course before purchasing any handgun or regulated (military style) long gun. I had done so, but I left the card that proved it at home. So, I returned to the show on Sunday with my card, and initiated the purchase of the AK. That prevented me from buying anything else (one regulated firearm per ~30 days), but I went ahead and picked up a case of ammo since it was cheaper at the show than it was likely to be anywhere else. I have a variety of observations about firearms and gunshows, but this reply is too long already, so I'll leave them for another time.

Now my regiment has a proper logo (thank you Google image search and MS Paint)
