New Place to-buy list

Post by Dave »

Since I'm moving to a new place w/o roomates, Im making a list of stuff to buy. How much did evryone else that got a job/etc spend on new-stuff? My limit is around 10k, and spending it all on a tv probably isnt the best idea.

Some quick rambling/random thoughts.

New Stuff:
  • Queen size mattress, boxspring, frame, bedsheets
  • Computer desk (really a nice solid oak dining table)
  • Leather computer chair!
  • 32" HDTV for ~$1k (I don't really use it though)
  • TV Stand
  • Compact flourescent floor lamp (55 Watts, brightness = 300W conventional, runs cool)
  • Shower curtains
  • Various hangers for bathroom and door (VERY convenient)
  • Rice cooker
  • Pots
  • Dishrack
  • Vacuum
  • Some rubbermaid plastic drawers I never use
  • Consumables: toilet paper, paper towels, plastic bags, laundry detergent, static sheets, etc
  • Exercise bike (came later)
  • Space heater (came later)
Old/Free Stuff:
  • Sleeper couch
  • Round glass dining table
  • Rocking recliner chair
  • 3 simple chairs
  • Plates
  • Bowls
  • Pasta Strainer
  • Pots
  • Silverware
  • Handcloths
  • Huge plastic wrap dispenser
May sound like a lot, but my place is still pretty bare. Also, it was DEFINITELY less than 10k. The HDTV is the most expensive piece by far, but I don't use it much...

We didn't blow our wad first thing upon moving here, because I didn't cash out. We actually had Intel move a bunch of crap of ours, like Amber's car, so we didn't get as much cash.

Stuff we started with:
car
glass table and chairs
big closets (cut down on need for bedroom furniture)
Bed (actually, we bought this in Atlanta and shipped it)
several white pieces that we use as table, computer desk, printer table, etc.
cheap computer desk

Stuff we bought more or less immediately:
TV
Futon
Pots
Pans
Sheets
Pillows
Shower curtains

Later, we bought:
Dining table and chairs
Couch
Armchair
TV armoire
Floor lamp
Computer chair
Bookshelves
Spare chairs
DVD player
Vacuum
Tools
nice chest of drawers
cheapo nightstands

Things still on our to-buy list:
Nice computer desk (have old one currently)
Coffee table
bedframe
More sheets (guest sheets)
some incidental tables
nice nightstands
more bookshelves

I'd say the things on your to-buy list depend greatly on your new place. We don't need shower curtains in our new apartment because the shower has glass doors.

if you dont use your tv much, email it to me! The movers that picked up my stuff today actually moved my bed out (the one the previous tenents left since they couldnt move it out hehe) Plus they had these nifty boxes that are like mini-clossts to hang clothes from.

Driving 1k miles down to FL tommorow... fun fun fun.

Eh, 1k miles isn't so bad, now 3k, there's a drive :P. Which way are you going down to FL from PA? Are you going through WV and western Virginia and all or are you driving across toward the coast and then down? Going toward the coast is probably better as far as getting help if you have road trouble. Good luck with the drive and have fun in FL!
Have you clicked today? Check status, then: People, Jobs or Roads

around 550 miles down here, and another 450 to go primarily on I95 down the coast
