Read about her in Rolling Stone. They called her a cabaret rapper or something like that.

Looks kind of like Mira Sorvino. She sounds kind of like a jazz singer but has a wide variety of songs. They're all pretty silly but not bad. Maybe I'll pick up the CD someday.

She does a cover of the White Stripes "Fell in Love with a Girl" except it's now "Feel in Love with a Boy".

I like the original better, but her soul version works too.

So I ended up ordering both of these from Amazon. They're both pretty excellent. Nellie McKay's bag is variety. She's got just about every musical style on her CD. Joss Stone is pure soul all the way. If you're interested in jazzy stuff at all they're worth buying (or acquiring...whatever).

BUY NELLIE MCKAY'S CD!

It's seriously the best CD I've heard in a long time. Each time I listen to it I like it more. I just have it on continuous repeat all day now.

The melodies are catchy, and her jazzy voice is great, but it's her lyrics and her delivery that set her apart. The first couple times through I didn't listen that closely to them but Good God, Sweet Jesus, and for good measure, Mary Mother of God this album is incredible.

Sharad and I are already fighting over who's going to marry her. This girl is brilliant.
