Computer dying

Post by Dave »

So more frequently than ever my pc has been crashing (Chrome posts a 'its dead Jim' purple background) and then all the active programs close quickly and the computer shutdown. Concurrently sometimes it just powers on in the middle of the night after I have shutdown and the fans are goin nuts as it boots into the default windows restore safe mode.

Either I have some paranormal activity going on or my shit is about to die. I did the virus scan and malware bytes and didn't turn up anything and googles that I should run off some options in windows system error reboot and wake on lan, but other than that not sure what else it could be. I did re tighten and de_dusted everything on the mobo.

Halp?!

Disk check - http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/wind ... d385dcbb12
Mem check - http://www.memtest.org/

Are your fans working as intended (spinning up when needed, etc)? Is your airflow good?

Make backups now or suffer the consequences.

Not a lot's been posted lately, so I guess that's sufficient...

Check disk didn't find anything, and mem test was ok.

My guess is it as a Wake on LAN thing since I moved my pc upstairs recently and switched to wireless. Wife says my computer would turn on randomly in the middle of the day, but hasn't acted up last few nights. At least for now that's my guess. I did sacrifice a chicken this weekend though.
