no gfx
My video card just died. Probably going to get a 560, but they are a little more expensive than I really wanted them to be. I'm pretty sure ATI & Linux are still shit, but now I'm doing the due diligence at least.

Hmm, some forum posts make it sound like in the past couple months ATI has finally achieved working. I wish someone would do benchmarks.

Re: no gfx
Damn, it'd be nice to get DisplayPort out.

I like the cooling solution on this one, but it is DVI/HDMI only.

Went with this one. I would have liked to go with a little more perf (ie the 560 above) but I'm pretty happy.
Also picked up a G500, cause why not?
Now, if the stupid thing will only get here before Friday night so I can move my Eve stuff out of Curse.

Re: no gfx
Are the 6870's better than 6950's? I was considering the latter, but didn't really look for any perf data to back up that decision. I know they're roughly the same price (within 10% or so). Oh, and I'm still waiting for a decent P67 mobo to be back in stock...

Re: no gfx
No, bigger number = better. In this case I picked a 6870 because none of the 6950s come with a quiet cooling solution.
If you are willing to spend a bit and deal with noise I think the 6950 is probably better perf/dollar.

Re: no gfx
Just asked Newegg for an RMA on that 6870. AMD may have dramatically improved their Linux drivers, but they still aren't playable.
L4D2 - crashes on start up
Alien Swarm - invisible monsters & invisible characters
Supreme Commander 2 - invisible units
Eve - crashes fairly frequently
Back to Nvidia. I guess I will skip the DisplayPort and get the damn 560 I linked above. Going to poke around just a little first.

Bought the Gigabyte 560 Ti OC. Apparently "poke around" means "just damn buy it."

Re: no gfx
I ordered the 6950 and hoping to flash it to a 6970 which will be awesome. I'm still waiting for damn motherboard supplies to catch up. Newegg is listing P67 boards, but they're perpetually "sold out". Also, the board I wanted is still not even listed yet. The models above and below in the feature stack are there, and the micro version of the board I want is also listed. Probably another couple of weeks still until I can get the board I want.
