Portable MP3 players... discuss

I've been looking at portable mp3 players over the last couple of days and can come up with three categories:
  • 1. There's the iPod which is the do everything mp3 player with a hard drive.
    2. The mp3/cd players. The best of these are probably the slim-X models by iRiver.
    3. The completely solid state players like the Rio's.
Anyways, the main point of this thread is to see if I missed anything when looking for players. I almost missed this nice mp3 player from Philips which even ignores Digital Rights Management. Most other players seem to enforce DRM for some reason even though it's really silly to enforce it on flash based mp3 players and be completely unable to implement it on mp3/cd players!

Since I don't really need another pda and don't want to lug around something as big as an mp3/cd player, I'm leaning towards something like the model link to from Philips. Anything else out there to consider?

Some things, such as iPods, do not have batteries that can be replaced. The unit is simply dead when the lithium ion battery can't be charged again.

A few guys at work have yepps. You might want to look into it.

Since I'm too lazy to end the long history of laziness we've all exhibited by looking this up myself, care to post a link to what a yepp is?

There's also PDAs/cellphones with mp3 capability. Something to investigate if you're looking to keep down the total number of devices you carry around.

Ok, so the yepps are mostly 32 and 64 meg designs with only a couple of not as nice 128meg designs as I've seen elsewhere by iRiver. I'm thinking I'm gonna go with the philips player since it can also be a 128meg keychain usb drive.

Amber's in the market. She likes the Flash iRiver or possibly the CW200. But then, she definitely wants one with an armband, so your mileage may vary.

Yepps appear to be quite large, physically. At least, compared with some of their competitors in this space.

No, no, the Games board is the FFXI-only board. This board has the other crap.

I had to recommend the philips player for my sister since she'd never take the time to figure out the interface for the iRiver player. For me, it's a toss-up between iRiver and Philips. More features on the iRiver, but the iRiver has the DRM while the Philips does not. The Philips models also have a rechargeable battery and don't need a cable to connect to the computer.

Thanks to whoever posted that. That's basically what I was telling my aunt when making the decision for a player to give my sister.
