Good Airfare Sites?

Post by VLSmooth »

Any know of any good airfare sites besides the basic:pages?

I've gotten one recommendation for BananaTravel, but so far orbitz has proved to be the best with interface (bonus days, 'nuff said) and price. I'm trying to get a round-trip ticket to Florida for xmas and new year's. Already got gouged on a Thanksgiving ticket ^_^; Right now, I'm looking at ~$350 (cheaper than the ~$380 for Thanksgiving).

Nope. That's your selection right there, pard. Unless you wanna get all fancy and do the priceline.com thing or something like that. But really, what're they paying you for?

Occasionally you'll find a deal on some airline's website that doesn't get into the major databases. For holiday travel, you're not going to get any super special deal, though. Also, Orbitz is some airline cartel of high-priced carriers that are trying to shove the budget carriers off the roadmap. Depending on costs and trip time, you may want to investigate AirTran or Southwestern or whatever budget carrier serves your local airport and your parents' airport.

For PIT->ATL, I always flew AirTran. For PDX->ATL, we fly Delta because they're the only ones with regular nonstop service.

ATA is one of the cheapest airlines around and they're on Orbitz. Heck, I did shopping around of these type of sites a while ago and didn't find anything better than orbitz. Only thing I might mention is to use orbitz to find the cheapest carrier and then go to that carrier's website for possible cheaper price from some random deal.

I would say be flexible with destination city. It's usually a lot cheaper to fly into another city and drive the 1-2 hours home rather than paying the premium for the other location. Only thing is you have to leave early enough to not miss the flight on your way back.

Good idea. There is one more airport I can look at (Clearwater), but I won't subject my parents to any distance further than that. I had the option of driving with a person from CMU back to Gainsville (~3 hours from where I live), but my parents definitely didn't want to drive that far.

wouldn't it just be cheaper to fly somewhere else and rent a car so that your parents don't have to drive
