Not that I care, but why does Warner have to pick between HD-DVD and BluRay? Why can't they release their movies on both formats?

Uh, there's one simple yet powerful reason for anyone that sells products. INVENTORY! It's easier to stock only one format and manage it rather than two. If you include all the different types of releases they do like special edition, theatrical, unrated, etc... it's an even bigger deal. Inventory is bad for several reasons, but the main one is because it locks up cash that you could be using to grow your business in other ways.
