heh, one of the few x's in the phpbb3 column was to stop supporting MS Access.

I'd say yes to the switch if we won't lose statistics history and the search works better... From a mod standpoint, it looks like a lot more fun things that I might be able to play with.

I have no objection to the upgrade.

Statistics are from a mod. I have no idea if there is a phpb3 equivalent. Best to assume not, but feel free to google around.

There's a new version of phpbb2 out, but I'm considering pushing the phpbb3 button rather than getting the security/bugfix for 2.

Mostly my reasons for considering an upgrade can broken down like this: phpbb2 has security and spam warts, but at least I know what they are. I haven't found any info about how well the upgrade from phpbb2 works or whether current phpbb3 is a smestering pile of poo and spam or if it works nicely.

You can follow they corporate upgrade pattern and wait 'til there are at least a revision or two (SP1 if it were Windows) of the initial release out and then upgrade. I have no idea how long you'll need to wait for the updates though.

It might be a good idea to do it before Oct 1, 2008

edit: it was fucking up for me for some reason so I redid your link

Heh, we've been running without a backup for a while. Probably I'll backup and upgrade sooner rather than later.

Wow, this just looks and feels weird compared to the previous version :?

Interesting, we can attach files now and it looks like embedding flash is possible although it is disabled.

Need more skins!

Mainly for additional links and positioning instead of looks though. For example, I like having the hierarchy:

Board index ‹ Public Discussion ‹ Bulletin Board

At the bottom of a thread, as well as at the top.

I prefer the avatars on the left.
It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but it doesn't take any to just sit there with a dumb look on your face.

Whine, whine. If there's something you want, find a link that tells me how.

I'm so confused. Everything's backwards and the wrong colors.

Edit: And my avatar looks terrible. Pretty funny that it's still there. It's hosted on my Baltimore ISP's server. I guess they haven't gotten around to cleaning it out.

Edit2: And my language is British English and can't be changed. Not that I've seen any words that reflect it yet.

Edit3: Avatar is less terrible looking now that it's scaled approximately correctly.

Edit4: I just saw Google logged on! Apparently they put in a back door for their robots, because they are registered.
I feel like I just beat a kitten to death... with a bag of puppies.

Distinguishing between bots and anon users is a phpbb3 feature, not a bug. There are no bot accounts.
