but AAPL's market cap is more than Dell's. Or IBM's. Or Oracle's. Or Intel's.

It's because their ROE is so much better. They don't require nearly as much cash to generate their billions in net income as say intel does because apple doesn't need to build huge, expensive manufacturing facilities. As a result, investors value them more highly and give them a better P/E ratio.
